College Application and Scholarship Workshop

July 14-16, 2026; 9:30-11:30 a.m. PDT

Virtual Session via Zoom

This 6 hour virtual workshop will guide participants on writing effective responses to application and scholarship essay prompts.

Participants will deconstruct prompts to notice the key words that are most important, learn what information to include to provide, and how to write clear and detailed responses despite word count restrictions. By the end of the workshop, participants will have three draft responses that can be used for college applications or scholarships.

The workshop is geared towards high school rising juniors and seniors. There is a maximum of 20 participants.

Workshop Facilitator

Dr. Lanette Jimerson is a Bay Area native, former professor, and educator. She regularly reads college and scholarship applications for highly rated schools and competitive awards.

She was the first in her family to attend and graduate from a 4-year college and earn a doctorate. Her journey as a first opportunity college student was an unlikely story given that she didn’t apply to college until March of her senior year.

Lanette founded The Literate Self to remove writing as a barrier for those seeking to reach their academic and financial goals.
