This course will provide students the opportunity to learn the key components of non-fiction writing through explorations of local venues such as museums, parks, and science centers.
The culminating activity is an author’s chair where participants will share their writing.
Session: June 2-6, 2025
Time: 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. PDT
Location: Meets for the first hour and last hour at 912 Clay Street. in Oakland. Exploration includes the Yerba Buena Gardens, Lawrence Hall of Science, and the Museum of Modern Art.
Learners will be engaging informational writing and thus their favorite magazine would be a useful text.
This course is best for ages 11-15 years old.
About the instructor:
Dr. Lanette Jimerson is a writer, scholar and educator with 20+ years teaching writing. She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators. She has an extensive collection of children’s books and loves to write board books for toddlers.
Lanette earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
