There are a host of sponsors who will pay you to learn while traveling! From Fulbright scholarships, to family foundation grants, to requesting support from friends and family. This session will teach you how to write a learn and travel proposal. Below is a picture of me inside a pyramid during a learn and travel trip to Mexico where I learned about the African presence in pre-Columbian times.
Organizations often provide learning experience to students. To ensure these experience are robust experts in a field are often paid to travel and support student learning. The session will teach you how to identify partners who need your expertise and are willing to pay for your expenses. Below is a picture of me from 2014, I was offered the opportunity to travel with a group of pre-service teachers to Dangriga, Belize. My role was to model writing instruction for the pre-service teachers and host teachers. The below photo is from making a drum from raw materials during my spare time.
Universities and organizations across the globe seek to have experts come and share their knowledge. In particular government and local initiatives include in their plans experience from outside consultants who can provide a new perspective. Since 2016, I have traveled to Uppsala to facilitate writing workshops for teachers educators in order to strengthen their own writing practice and the writing instruction of the teachers they support and provide guest lectures on equity and education. The below photo was taken during a trip to Germany where I gave a guest lecture.
Hi Lanette,
I hope all is well. Chile has been amazing - it has been such an eye opening experience to be able to teach here. I’ve been able to reconnect with family as well, which has been amazing. One of my aunts is a teacher in Iquique (North of Santiago) and I am trying to arrange to see her school after this program ends. I hope the summer is treating you well - it is winter here and snowed last night.
Thank you again for helping to facilitate this amazing opportunity for growth.
Warmly,
Mila S.
“I never thought travel was possible for me. I definitely didn’t know I could travel as a student and just pay my home tuition. Going to Queens College in New York was hard and I am glad I spent a semester learning there. Now I have plans to travel to Japan and take a semester there!
Thank you Lanette for helping me.
